Finding the Light x yasmine cheyenne
Tell us a little about yourself.
I believe that healing is for everyone, and I teach people approachable ways to make their lives better every day. I’ve written two books, The Sugar Jar and Wisdom of the Path, which help readers lean into peace and fulfillment through storytelling.
What led you to starting a career in wellness and helping others live their best lives?
After serving as a Victim Advocate while in the US Air Force almost two decades ago, I learned that I had a deep desire to help people walk through tough times and find the light within themselves again. That experience awakened within me the passion to help others remember that it’s okay to choose yourself, unapologetically, and that each small step you take back to finding yourself really, really matters.
What are some quick changes that you’d recommend making to start off 2025 the right way?
My favorite changes to make when starting off a New Year are to:
- Be really clear about all the things you wish you said no to in the prior year, and give yourself the space to say no this year.
- Make time to hang a bit more than last year with your friends, community and chosen family. It is such an important part of caring for ourselves and those we love.
- Drink more water. Honestly, we all need to!
How would you define success in defining how to live one’s best life?
This will sound cliché, but only you get to define what your best life is and what success means to you. And this isn’t what people want to hear, because we want answers. We want a checklist. We want clarity! But that clarity is going to come from you spending time with you. Maybe you’ll get clearer on what feels like your best life through a journaling practice. Or maybe you’ll talk about it with your therapist, coach or friends. No matter which way you choose, self-exploration helps us to clearly determine what we want and why it matters to us.
“But we all know that feeling of vibing with our clothes and feeling so good about how we look that it radiates through us and out into the room.”
What does education mean to you, and how has it influenced your work?
When we are informed, we’re in our power position to do what we desire in our lives, and this is one of the foundational things that I teach in my work. Curiosity is the birthplace of freedom. From that lens, education is EVERYTHING. We can make changes once we know. We can advocate for ourselves once we know.
How would you describe your personal fashion style, and does your work have any influence on it (or vice versa)?
I have a very eclectic style because I absolutely love fashion. As a native New Yorker, I remember sneaking to Bryant Park as a teen to get a peek at all the fashion week styles, or walking through SoHo to soak in the new season's looks.
I love color blocking as much as I love a monochromatic look. I love the chicness of an all black look as much as I love a pop of color. Street style is often a normal part of my look, as well, as I love the idea of pairing a rugged boot or pair of sneakers with a chic dress, I don’t believe in saving fancy pieces or being too matchy.
My work and style coincide because I have always dressed based on what makes me feel good. I may not be wearing what is the trend but if I love it, I wear it. Staying true to what I like without pressure is a conscious choice I make when getting dressed.
What is your favorite piece from your Marcella Capsule?
My favorite piece from my Marcella Capsule is the Irving Convertible Clutch, it is SO chic! And any piece that can do more than one thing is a plus. It can be worn crossbody or fanny style. An absolute forever - never going out of style - piece.
What role does style play in the work you do?
It plays SUCH a big role. As much as we know that self-care is not about the superficial things, getting dressed impacts our mood. When we wake up in the morning and put ourselves together, and we take that final look in the mirror before we go out into the world, we feel the influence from how we’ve put ourselves together.
Of course, how we look does not make us who we are. But I’ve found that style is an important ritual of adorning our bodies with love, care and creativity - an exact expression of what colors, fabrics, prints and styles we love.
That feeling of vibing with our clothes and feeling so good about how we look that it radiates through us and out into the room. And that feeling impacts our self-confidence, our well-being, our sense of self-validation and self-love.
